The end of the summer...

This has really been a whirlwind of a summer! After spending the summer teaching art classes, I am so happy to be back in my own little art studio and work on my own creations again. Nick’s classroom is looking better and better everyday (but we are still not ready for all our kids to be back). Maybe this year will be the year we are truly ready for them… well, probably not. This last week we celebrated our four year wedding anniversary, and in a few months we will be introducing to the world the newest member of our family! Yep, we are having a baby in early January! I am curious to see how life will change with a little one around. I look forward to the changes, even the diaper ones.

The Courage to Say it All

So this is as far as I have gotten on my mixed media college. She is still in the precess, and I will continue to upload pictures of her as I go. Thanks for viewing.

Update!

Last nights progress. My Lioness is coming together. This is where I stopped after I found the opossum in my studio.

Intruder!

I was working away and heard a rustling to my left. I look over to see this ball of fur crawling up a roll of paper! I thought it was a rat. I woke up Nick, my husband, to get it out of my studio (hours before he needs to for work). He comes in and laughs when he sees that it is only a baby possum! He trapped it in a garden bucket and we put it outside.
What I would like to know how you got in Mr.

And so it begins!

Background- The Courage to Say It All

So this is as far as I got last night working on my background. This is going to be a large mixed media piece done in the style of the eye study I did a few weeks back before spring break hit. Just thought I would upload a progress image.

*please ignore the messy studio in the background. It just comes with the territory of me being productive.

Spring Break

Well, spring break is over and it is back to my studio for me. It is so nice to be home. Let the creating begin!

New technique!

I had a wonderful night last night! I woke Nick last night after this experiment turned out so well, hours before he was suppose to be up. I am so thankful I have a supporting husband who just smiles and returns my excitement. This is a light background of layers of magazine paper with chartpak markers, and prismacolors on top. It is already sealed, which is why it has glare. The pictures just don't do it justice. So happy with how this piece turned out. I started my larger piece tonight using this same technique. I will have pictures up when it is done.

Studies

I have had a wonderful time lately working on studies and just experimenting. Here are a couple of my mixed media pieces. (watercolor, prisma, and chartpak markers)

Etsy

So, after talking with Nick I decided to start an etsy account. Last night I uploaded several of my smaller pieces- collages and paintings. Right now they are flowers and butterfly. I haven't listed them here because,... well I just haven't. My username is midnightbutterfly22 just like my email or www.midnightbutterfly22.etsy.com. The top and bottom images are magazine collages and the middle is a magazine collage transfer(where I remove the paper backing). It is always fun to experiment.

Second day of working on the self portrait. Still some adjustments to be made.

Letting Go

There is a story behind this piece. I received a leaf necklace for Mothers day from family, after I had my miscarriage. Like my necklace, the leaf in the painting represents our child. It will be two years this February, and I still find it very difficult to let go of the loss.

I had the desire to get back into painting, after going into collage pieces for so long. I haven't decided if I want to add to the background any. However, I like my barren tree.

Finished!

After a few more days of work on her, she is finished! Well I still need to seal her, but I want to make sure I don't find something I need to change first. That said, I am very happy with how she turned out, even if it is not the direction that I started. She is made completely out of magazine paper. At the moment she is untitled. I will update that when I come up with one. (If you can, step away from the computer and look at her from a distance. The experience is worth it.)

A change of direction

I started this piece in the direction of putting a painted mask on her. However, the further I got into putting her together the more hesitant Nick, my husband, was on having me continue in that direction. Needless to say, I followed his advice and I am working to finish her in a less dramatic but more realistic fashion. I will put up the finished pictures as soon as she is completed.

Works in progress...

These are a couple of pieces that are in the works. I come back to them when I need a break from what I am working on. The women in the multicolored dress is actually different than my other collages, because she is done as a transfer (so she is transparent to some degree and there is no paper left). I have a way to go finishing the background on thatone. The second is a small painting and is one I started one night and haven't come back to again, but will eventually.

New Work!
